Jonathan received both his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from Texas A&M University, and was awarded his Juris Doctorate law degree from the University of Texas in 2004. After working for big law firms, he co-founded the firm of Schulte & Apgar in 2007, and later founded the firm of Apgar Legal, PLLC. He currently is our Managing Partner. 

Jonathan has represented clients in thousands of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Collin County, Dallas County, Denton County, and Tarrant County. Many of his cases result in a dismissal of charges for his client. His primary focus is on criminal cases involving intoxication offenses (e.g., Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), public intoxication, etc.), felony drug possession, assault and family violence charges, and sealing or expunging records from prior criminal cases. However, Jonathan has experience defending all types of criminal cases, from traffic tickets to murder.

In 2014, Jonathan was selected to the "Rising Star Attorney" list by Texas Super Lawyer's Magazine (owned by Internet Brands), a prestigious honor awarded to less than 3% of attorneys in Texas, 

In 2017, he was selected to be a member of a panel discussion concerning global issues in criminal justice during the Conference on Law & Society in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2018, he was invited to attend a private diplomatic meeting in Oslo, Norway, with top members of their Office of Public Prosecutions to compare and contrast criminal justice issues in the United States and Scandinavia, and to exchange information and ideas on criminal justice reform in their respective countries.

Jonathan believes that legal representation should be focused not only on success in the courtroom, but also on strong client relations and customer service. To that end, he personally handles all aspects of each case, from initial consultation to final resolution. Jonathan's clients enjoy the ability to communicate directly with him at all times, not with a secretary or an associate attorney unfamiliar with the case.

While the facts of every case are different, below are just a few examples of the many successful results we have achieved for our clients in our relentless pursuit of justice:

Charge: DWI

Result: CASE DISMISSED

An aerospace engineer for a major government contractor was driving home late one night when he was pulled over by a police officer. The reason the officer stopped him was because he allegedly crossed over his lane line three times. He was arrested for DWI and hired Jonathan to defend his case. We filed a motion to suppress all the evidence in the case, and after a hearing the Judge ruled that my client had not committed any traffic offense, and therefore the officer’s stop of my client’s vehicle was illegal. The Judge suppressed all the evidence in the case, and my client’s DWI charge was IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED.

Charge: DWI

Result: CASE DISMISSED

A man was driving his vehicle with his wife one evening, and after exiting a legal U-turn under an elevated highway he crossed a single, solid white line while turning into a fast food restaurant. A police officer immediately pulled him over for crossing the solid white line, and subsequently arrested our client for DWI after a brief investigation. Jonathan filed a motion to suppress all the evidence in the case and argued that the police officer had no legal reason to stop our client that evening, since crossing a single, solid white line is not a traffic offense and there was no other basis for the officer to have stopped our client. After a hearing, the Judge ruled the stop of our client’s vehicle was illegal, and suppressed all the evidence in the case. The DWI charge was IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED.

Charge: AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

Result: DISMISSED

Our client was charged and indicted for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after it was alleged he used a broken beer bottle to cut another person’s neck during a bar fight. Our client was facing up to 20 years in prison for the 2nd degree felony charge. After conducting a thorough investigation of the evidence gathered by the police, Jonathan discovered several witness statements that were inconsistent regarding whether our client had even been a part of the bar fight. Jonathan also found evidence indicating a different person had swung the broken beer bottle and caused the injury to the victim. After confronting the prosecution with this evidence, our client’s felony charge was IMMEDIATELY DISMISSED.
